| Paviljonki Finland is situated in northern Europe. We have Sweden to the west, the tip of Norway in the north, a long border with Russia to the east, and Estonia to the south, across the Gulf of Finland. In terms of land area, Finland is the seventh largest country in Europe; and with a population of only five million the sense of space is truly amazing. Finland is also a land of lakes: almost 200,000 at the last count. Two thirds of the country is covered by forest, which we like to call our "green gold".
The Conference will be held in Jyväskylä, in the heart of the central Finnish lake district, about 270 km north of the capital Helsinki and within good traffic connections. The city is a lively university town with about 80 000 inhabitants. The architecture of Alvar Aalto here is internationally known. Paper manufacturing and paper machinery, as well as energy production, environmental, information and sport-related welfare technology are the fields of special expertise in Jyväskylä. "The big, little city" accurately describes Jyväskylä. It has the advantages of a small town, without the drawbacks of a big city. Comfort and safety characterise the city, as well as short travelling distances. The multi-faceted environment provides excellent opportunity for relaxation and leisure. The Jyväskylä region is the sportsperson's paradise. Those who love culture are no less fortunate either. In Jyväskylä, you sense the original Finnish culture, and you are bound to feel at home, wherever your come from. |
