Poster
Session
The advice
which follows is offered to those who are new to preparing Posters - we
hope that those of you who are experienced will suggest improvements for
the benefit of future recipients. Please pay attention to the description
of the panels that will be used at the conference.
1. Display
panels
The measurements
of the display area allocated to you will be 1200 mm x 950 mm, height
x width (or 12 A4 sheets)
Each panel
will be clearly marked with a number, your name(s) and institution.
The location of your panel and times to put up/ remove your poster will
be communicated to you at registration. Please, adhere to these.
The surface
will be made of PVC plastic. Adhesive tape to fix your poster will be
provided on-site.
2. Poster
content and structure
Your poster
should attract the attention of passers by. The information should be
succinct and to the point, your style should be easy to read and the
design should be attractive.
The information
content should be divided into three main units: an introduction, the
body of your presentation and a conclusion.
Attractive
and concise introduction and conclusion will entice passers by to study
the body of your presentation.
Keep title,
headings and subheadings short and concise in order to attract attention.
3. Poster
format
The easiest
way to prepare your poster is probably to use a package such as Powerpoint
and to produce A4 sheets, either in portrait or landscape, depending
on the desired effect.
Remember
that your poster should be legible from a distance of about 1 m. Choose
a font size accordingly. Prefer sans serif font to fancier ones. If
using a colour printer, select colours carefully and be consistent.
Do not
include large amounts of text and leave plenty of white space. Tables,
graphs, screen dumps should be large enough to be viewed from a distance.
Laminated
sheets are very effective and ensure protection during transport.
Do not
attempt to cover the whole space available. Make sure that your poster
will fit the allocated display space.
4. Attendance
Your presence
will contribute to attract passers by. Their interest being stimulated
by your poster, visitors may wish to discuss certain points with you,
exchange ideas, or offer support. You will probably gain more from this
exchange than you would from a conventional paper session.
